Why this template#

SEO results are slow, noisy, and easy to misread. A good SEO brief separates signal from noise by anchoring on the keywords and content the agency is actually working on, not the universe of search terms the client could theoretically rank for.

This template is structured for that: top keyword movement (signal) + top content this period (causation) + what we're shipping next (plan).

What makes it work#

Three structural choices specific to SEO reporting:

  1. Keyword movement is filtered to "worth talking about." Not every fluctuation. The keywords the agency is actively targeting, plus the keywords driving meaningful traffic changes (positive or negative).
  2. Content shipped this period. SEO is content + technical, but the content side is what the agency is producing month-over-month. Showing what shipped builds the case for what to expect 3-6 months from now.
  3. Technical health is a snapshot, not a deep-dive. Core Web Vitals, indexation rate, sitemap health. If something is on fire, escalate; otherwise, a one-line "green across the board" is fine.

What you'll customize#

  • Keyword grouping: by topic cluster, by funnel stage, or by content type
  • Lead attribution model: GA4 first-touch, HubSpot last-touch, or custom multi-touch
  • Content cadence visibility: show all shipped content, or filter to long-form only
